After the main level cap, experience feeds another system. Diablo IV’s Paragon boards extend character growth; the image is from the 2024 2.0 PTR.

1. Board nodes provide another progression path after character levels

- Preserve the meaning of the main cap and explain each further investment.

## How it works

After the main level track ends, experience feeds a separate long-term system without necessarily resetting the hero.

## Variants

### Variants

<a id="post-cap-progress-options"></a>

- Accumulate points on a post-cap track. <a id="post-cap-progress-option-1"></a>
- Choose permanent specializations after reaching maximum level. <a id="post-cap-progress-option-2"></a>
- Develop separate endgame tracks with different goals. <a id="post-cap-progress-option-3"></a>

## Design example

At maximum level, experience unlocks extra passive-effect slots.

## Context and limits

A systematic RPG grind reference: 110 mechanics and 330 variants in 18 sections. Four layers answer different questions: what the player repeats, what develops, how rewards arrive and what constrains the loop. It covers single-player RPGs, ARPGs, MMORPGs and adjacent management and accumulation systems. Every mechanic has an explanation, variants and a hypothetical example; coverage, combinations and verified game observations follow the catalog.
