1. A paper map helps relate the route to the surroundings
2. The compass provides direction without a combat task

- Let environmental details provide new information and reasons to change route.

## How it works

Observation and movement reveal events through environmental detail without requiring continuous combat or reflex tests.

## Variants

### Mechanic variants

- Routes alter the order of narrative discovery.
- An object triggers a brief recollection.
- Looking again reveals a newly meaningful detail.
- Skipping inspection preserves another reading pace.

## Design example

An empty room gains new meaning after a letter is read in the neighboring house.

Prototype check: Test whether object placement communicates meaning without a compulsory explanatory monologue.

## Context and limits

Exploration connects route choices to observation, new knowledge and the cost of returning. Each overview separates player actions, state changes and alternative rules. Examples are hypothetical design scenarios, not claims about a named game. A prototype check states an observable question for the next iteration. Existing detailed references remain separately linked from the direction map.
